This week's slammin' keys is devoted to Keiko Matsui's Full Moon and the Shrine, a jazzy blend of piano, sax, percussion, and shakuhachi. There's also vocals on some of the tracks. I first heard Keiko on one of her PBS specials (i.e., in concert). In most cases, the live version sounds worse than the CD, but in this case, I think the opposite is true. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful album. But be prepared to pay a bit to get a copy ($16.99 or so due to its import nature). Try to get it used if possible. Also, it's really hard to find MP3's of this artist, even with the best search engines. There are, however, Real Audio (http://www.realaudio.com) samples of the music at URL: http://www.planetjoy.co.jp/matsui/keiko.html Other albums include Dream Walk (1996), Sapphire (1995), and Doll (1994). Additionally, Keiko and Kazu Matsui's web page is at URL: http://www.keikomatsui.com |
